August 6th, 2007 - Portrait of Carrie Ghneim
![]()
I just finished a portrait for George and Carrie Ghneim. This was a wonderful experience to paint Carrie when she was close to eight months pregnant and the energy from her just glowed and radiated in the room when she stepped up on my model stand. We talked about what she wanted this portrait to represent about this time in her life with her unborn daughter.
"I just love that everything right now is so private between us, I don't have to share her with the world just yet. Every movement and sensation is something that only I can feel and it's just incredible." As I let Carrie continue to talk this is basically the pose she fell into as she carressed her belly. A smile went across my face and I said, "That's your pose."
She posed for a total of three 2 hour sessions and I finished the painting from digital photos I took of her over the following month. The painting is on display at The Riviera, downtown Raleigh.
August 3rd, 2007 - Leaving Artspace
I closed down my studio at artspace in order to focus more of my energy and time in my home studio. The motivation for this is due to many factors, one of which is that I have recently hit what I believe to be a new plateau in my work and privacy for that development has become important to me. I've thoroughly enjoyed having a studio at Artspace and if you've ever seen me doing a demo on a First Friday, then you know I love painting in front of people and helping them see the creative process from the beginning. But unfortunately I've found that entertaining sightseerers and tourists daily in the open studio environment of Artspace has been a bit too disruptive when I'm really trying to focus and push on something. I will still be participating in the occasional hall show there and helping out with various fundraisers.
I will be using other galleries as the primary venue for showing and selling my work, so if you are interested in seeing pieces that are on the website, please give me a call or drop me an email and I can coordinate that with you one on one or direct you to the appropriate venue.
